Short description

The module cover two main topics:
  1. Vulnerability Analysis as a prerequisite to a risk assessment. Coupled with return on prevention analysis it could serve as an essential step in risk management and future scenarios development, giving managers and risk specialists a powerful decision assisting tool. This course aims to build up competences regarding vulnerability analysis in industry based on the current best practice in EU, as well as to provide basic knowledge regarding Return on Prevention Vulnerability analysis. Return on Prevention assessment gives the efficiency of the money and resources invested. The course presents the latest methodologies and instruments and also the latest stage of art.
  2. Industrial Risk Psychology as the scientific study of employees, workplaces, and organizational risks. Industrial Risk Psychology (IRP) contributes to an organization's success by improving the performance and well-being of its people and technological process. An IRP psychologist researches and identifies how risks can improve behaviors and attitudes by using risks through hiring practices, training programs, and feedback systems. IRP psychologists also help organizations' transition among periods of change and development.

Objectives

3.1 Knowledge

The first part of the module provides the students with sufficient knowledge needed to perform vulnerability and prevention analysis, showing the weak points (where the facility is vulnerable) and giving the spots where return on prevention could be maximized. The module aims to develop knowledge about industrial risks from a positive angle. The students learn how hazards can be considered as opportunities. New visions of risks extend the competence to assess and manage risks at human and enterprise level.

3.2. Skills

To perform studies in the areas of vulnerability/prevention and industrial psychology.

3.3. Competence

The participants develop the competence to assess and manage risks at the enterprise level. The main topics of that competence are:

  • Needs analysis (needs give birth to risks)
  • Job context Analysis (each of us act in a context)
  • Risk as a concept
  • Importance of communication at all levels
  • Promoting the idea of self management risks
  • Planning intervention focused on individual/context.

  2. Positive risks as variation requests

Teaching Methods

Teaching methods could depend on available resources and possibilities:

  • on the basis of the existing written material there would be a short presentation of the unit content completed with examples and case studies. At the end of each unit there will be a time dedicated to the buildup of the project – using the competences included in the presented unit, so that the students would be ready with the project through this interactive work-up and a reasonable individual effort;

  • the course would finalize with a practical application- done in the 4 days course  as a project done by the student referring on his own workplace.

Teaching will assume:

    a) information available online (on the Internet),

    b) cathedra lecturing,

    c) case studies,

    d) presenting examples of industrial risks and solutions found,

    e) self analysis of students from the perspective of industrial risk,

    f) practical exercises (within the limits of possibilities),

    g) observation method,

    h) test method
